Here’s what to expect:

1. Checking In

Upon check in, you will be led to our plush med spa relaxation room where you will be offered spa water or hot tea while you wait.

2. Meeting Your Provider

Next, your Professional Laser Technician will meet you in the relaxation room, then walk you to a private treatment room. There, you’ll discuss the procedure together before you begin, answering any questions you have until you’re comfortable with proceeding. If needed for the treatment, your laser hair technician will provide you with any covering you may need during the treatment before stepping out of the room for you to undress.

3. During Your Session

Your laser hair removal session will begin with eye protection for both you and your provider. They’ll then apply cooling gel to the treatment area before testing the laser hair system with a few pulses to gauge your comfort level. For some people, the laser can feel like a small pinch, a cat’s tongue, or a rubber band snapping on your skin. Once your tolerance is determined, they will begin performing the laser treatment on the entire treatment area. Most sessions take about 30 minutes.

4. Wrapping Up

Once complete, your service provider will offer you wipes to remove the gel and step out so that you can re-dress if needed. They will then go through the laser hair removal after care instructions. Why? the hair follicle needs pigmentation for the laser to effectively target it. Therefore, blonde and red hair are more resistant. White and grey hair will not respond to laser hair removal.

Slight redness and swelling may occur but usually dissipates in a few hours. The treated hair will fall out anytime from 3-14 days after your laser hair removal session, leaving you with smooth hair-free skin until your next growth cycle.

After each additional session, you’ll realize a reduction in the number of hairs in the treated area, with the hair becoming finer and lighter.

How To Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal requires a little preparation to get the best results from your treatments. Here are the things to do before your hair removal sessions begin:

  1. Stop Waxing, Plucking & Bleaching: Do not wax or tweeze hairs 4-6 weeks before your treatment. The hair must be present — a very short stubble — with its natural hair color to be treated effectively.

  3. Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep the area being treated out of the sun for the two weeks prior to your laser hair removal, including tanning beds and self-tanners.
  4. Remove Make-up & Lotions: Arrive to your appointment with the area to be treated clean, freshly shaved, and free of product — no makeup, creams or lotion.

 

What is the Minimum Age for Laser Hair Removal?

The minimum age for laser hair removal treatments at Viva is 17 years old, and parental consent is required. Our laser professionals strongly advise that patients wait until after puberty before starting laser hair removal treatments because the body goes through hormonal changes that can cause regrowth.

How Long Do Results Last?

Laser hair removal heats up the hair follicles to prevent new hairs from growing. The hair follicles enter a state of dormancy for a much longer time — significantly longer that with shaving and waxing. After your laser treatments, the hairs will grow back finer, lighter, and far fewer in number. Results typically last two years. However, maintenance sessions are required to keep the area without hair permanently.
