Kybella targets the underlying causes of submental fat. It contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps break down and absorb fats. When injected in the fat under your chin, Kybella double chin injections destroy the fat cells while leaving all other cells unaffected. After treatment, your body clears the excess fat through its natural metabolic processes. You will experience swelling after your Kybella treatment. The swelling is an inflammatory reaction that occurs when Kybella’s active ingredient (deoxycholic acid) dissolves the fat cells under your chin. Post-treatment swelling is moderate and typically lasts about 5-7 days. It is most noticeable after the first treatment session when the largest number of fat cells need to be destroyed. Each subsequent treatment will cause less inflammation, and in turn less swelling.
