IPL Photofacial

Lumecca IPL photofacial uses precise amounts of powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) to treat sun damaged skin, fine lines, age spots, brown spots, and small blood vessels. And IPL facial can also be used to treat rosacea, helping reduce the redness and flushing caused by rosacea by up to 80%. Best of all, this quick 30-minute treatment requires no downtime, making it convenient for people with busy schedules.

Here’s how: the IPL hand piece emits short blasts of high-intensity light that penetrate the skin and are absorbed by damaged tissue. This stimulates the production of collagen and causes blood vessels beneath the epidermis to constrict. As a result, you’ll experience a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, smaller pore sizes, the fading of age spots and pigmentation, and smoother, softer skin.

Photofacial treatments work best for patients with:

• Lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick skin types I-III)
• Skin pigmentation caused by aging, medication, or sun damage

This FDA approved treatment utilizes photothemolysis to target the treatment area tissue with wavelengths of light that heat and destroy the problem area, without affecting or damaging surrounding tissue. Also, Lumecca features a sapphire cooling tip which makes the treatment very comfortable.

Sun damage and skin complexion results are noticeable a few days after the first session. Your skin will continue to gradually improve, with a significant improvement in clarity and complexion after 1-2 weeks. Multiple Lumecca photofacial sessions will improve the final outcome.

Results are permanent. However, future sun exposure will make your skin susceptible to additional damage. If you take good care of your skin and protect it from the sun, the underlying issues are less likely to return.

Your skin’s appearance will be visibly improved after the first IPL photofacial session. Your IPL treatment plan will depend on the severity of skin damage and type of treatment (vascular vs. sun damage).

Results can be achieved in a single session. For optimal results we typically recommend 3 sessions scheduled 4-6 weeks apart. To maintain results, we also recommend a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months.

To start your treatment, you’ll put on special glasses to protect your eyes, and then a cool gel will be applied on the skin of the treatment area. Next, the smooth glass surface of the Lumecca IPL hand piece is gently applied to your skin. There will be a bright flash of light when the light pulses are emitted. Typically guests say it does not hurt. You will feel a tingling or light elastic sensation, similar to a mild snap of a rubber band.  We will wrap up your session by wiping off the gel, cleaning the area with a warm cloth, and applying moisturizer and sunscreen.

Typically, the skin will be red and feel slightly warm after treatment. This usually subsides within an hour.  Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning immediately after treatment.

Freckles and age spots generally look darker for 3-7 days while the pigment comes to the surface. Crusting can also occur. These pigmented lesions will flake off over a period of up to 10 days following your Lumecca IPL session.  This will leave your skin clearer and more even-toned.
