Waxing and sugaring are two techniques commonly used to remove unwanted hair by removing the hair follicle from the root. Here are the main differences:
What Is Waxing?
Wax is hot and applied on the skin in the direction of the hair growth, then removed with a strip in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Waxing hair removal services are great for large body parts that are not sensitive, such as the legs, arms, and back.
Also, it’s great for brow waxes because the easy application process allows for the high level of detail necessary for waxing brows. At Viva Day Spa, we carry 3 high quality waxes that are used for specific body parts based on their properties.
What Is Sugaring?
Sugar is a water-soluble substance made from sugar, lemon, and water. It is warm, and has a consistency similar to taffy. Your Viva esthetician will take a ball of sugar and work it in her hand while wearing special textured gloves. Next, she will apply the sugar to the body part by spreading the sugar against the direction of the hair growth, and then remove the sugar using a quick flinging motion.
The sugar is removed in the direction of the hair growth, which results in less hair breakage. Your esti will continue to use the same sugar ball to remove the rest of the hair for that body part.
Sugaring hair removal is great to use on smaller, more sensitive areas since it does not adhere to live skin. It is most commonly used for bikini, Brazilians, and underarms. Also, sugar is easily to remove with a wet towel since it is water-soluble.
