Everything You Need To Know About Lip Filler

Maybe it was the first time you saw Angelina Jolie’s pillowy lips on the big screen. Or perhaps you like your lips the way they are, but just want a little added definition to your Cupid’s bow. Or maybe you found out the hard way that plumping gloss just doesn’t work after all. (If only!)

Regardless of what brought you here, we’re glad you’ve come. No more Google searches for “lip fillers near me.” If you’ve been daydreaming about making a change — no matter how dramatic — to the shape or thickness of your lips, get ready to flaunt your new pout. At Viva Day Spa + Med Spa, we love helping our guests feel and look their best. Also, we want you to feel safe and educated about every cosmetic treatment you try. Here’s everything you need to know about injectable lip fillers.

How Do Lip Fillers Work?

Unlike some other cosmetic injectables, lip fillers are made from a naturally occurring substance in the body.

Viva Day Spa + Med Spa uses the top two filler brands: Juvederm and Restylane. Both of these gel injectables use hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar found in your skin, to plump your lips for a subtly enhanced pout. Our aesthetic injectors use an ultra-fine needle that employs Vycross technology to instantly and safely enhance the contour of your lips. Both injectables also soften existing vertical lines while augmenting your natural mouth shape, all in a single treatment. Talk about a two-for one!

Because hyaluronic acid is already a part of your body’s process, it has a remarkably strong hold. It also attracts and traps moisture under the skin, creating an unbelievably natural look to your new lip definition.

Lip Filler Options

Viva Day Spa + Med Spa offers six different lip fillers, all of which are in the Juvederm or Restylane filler families. The primary difference is their hyaluronic particle size. The smaller the particle, the more subtle the effects of your lip injections.

Juvederm Volbella, which has the smallest particle size, is best for natural look that hydrates and addresses crepiness and fine lines. Conversely, Juvederm Vollure has the largest particle size. It best for patients who want more volume and change in the shape of their lips. Your expert injector will go over each of these options in your consult to help you decide which is just right for your kisser.

  • Juvederm Volbella
  • Restylane Refyne
  • Restylane Kysse
  • Restylane
  • Juvederm Ultra
  • Juvederm Vollure

All lip fillers contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort during treatment. The whole process is complete within minutes, although it’s important to note that you may experience slight bruising and swelling for three to five days after treatment. Plus, all aesthetic injectors at Viva Day Spa + Med Spa have advanced medical training and credentials. Your injections will be performed by an aesthetic Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), or by Viva’s medical director and board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Aisha White.

How Long Will My Lip Fillers Last?

Lip fillers are FDA approved to last for 12 months, depending on which filler you choose. For example, Juvederm Volbella has the smallest hyaluronic particle, so it lasts closer to 6 months. Restylane can yield results that last anywhere from 6 to 12 months.

There’s also the issue of metabolism. Depending on how quickly your body metabolizes the hyaluronic acid, the life cycle of your filler may vary. Your lip augmentation specialist will choose the brand of filler that’s best-suited to your metabolism and lifestyle to make sure you have beautiful and long-lasting results.

When Will I Notice Results?

Once your treatment is complete, you’ll notice that your lips appear slightly swollen. You might even experience slight bruising, along with the swelling, for three to five days after your injections. This is completely normal.

The best practice — especially if you have to rush back into the real world immediately afterward — is to ice your lips for no more than 10 minutes per day. Patients can also use prescription-strength Arnica to help with bruising. Your certified injector can advise you on how to speed up your recovery as well. But no matter what you do, be sure to drink lots of water! After a few days, the swelling will have noticeably settled. You’ll be ready to rock your new Cupid’s bow.

How Much Lip Filler Should I Get?

At Viva Day Spa + Med Spa, we believe that you should do whatever you need to feel good about your appearance. That said, our medical team recommends starting off with one syringe and build until you reach your desired goal for your lips.

During your consultation, your injector will guide you through the process of understanding your aesthetic goals so that your results exactly match your vision. After all, lip filler is an art form, and everyone will want something different and unique to them. Here are just a few examples:

  • Stronger, more prominent Cupid’s bow
  • Fuller, more rounded top lip
  • A slight enhancement to fix asymmetry
  • Increased volume in either the upper or lower lip
  • Increased volume in upper and lower lip to varying proportions (40/60, 50/50 or otherwise)

Viva Day Spa + Med Spa offer complimentary lip consultations so that one of our certified specialists can guide you through the process and get to know your aesthetic goals before you schedule a treatment appointment.

Are Lip Fillers Safe?

Both Restylane and Juvederm lip fillers are completely safe. In fact, both lip fillers are industry standard and used in medical spa offices worlwide. The only situation in which they might not be right for you is if you have a history of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), or if you are allergic to lidocaine. Your certified specialist will go over what to avoid before your procedure (spicy foods, alcohol, excessive working out, etc.) to ensure you’re well hydrated and will experience as little swelling as possible.

What If I Don’t Like Them?

Our number-one priority is to make sure you feel better when you walk out our doors than you did when you came in. That’s why your will thoroughly discuss your augmentation goals before beginning with injections at a complimentary consultation. However, another added bonus of hyaluronic acid is that it can be removed with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, even before it naturally dissolves. Therefore, if for some reason you decide against the filler after it’s been injected, you can purchase a treatment for elective dissolving.

Now that you know how safe and painless the treatments are, you’re probably asking yourself, “Okay, but how much does it cost to get lip fillers?” Lip filler costs $750 in Austin. We also have monthly med spa specials
