A Collagen-Stimulating Injectable Treatment

Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to stimulate your body’s natural collagen production. Often referred to as a “liquid facelift,” it works beneath the surface of the skin to restore structure, fullness, and support over time. Since it was launched in 1999, millions of patients worldwide have been treated with Sculptra delivering gradual, natural looking results.

How Sculptra Works Beneath the Skin

Made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material that has been safely used in medical applications for decades, Sculptra triggers your body to rebuild its own collagen. As collagen production increases, skin appears smoother, firmer, and more refreshed, with results that develop gradually and can last up to two years.

How Sculptra Is Different from Traditional Fillers

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers that provide immediate volume, Sculptra works over time by strengthening the skin’s underlying foundation. This makes it a popular choice for patients who want subtle, natural-looking improvement that evolves gradually rather than a more instant change.

What Areas Can Sculptra Treat?

Sculptra is designed to address age-related volume loss and skin changes by supporting the skin’s underlying structure. It’s most often used in areas where collagen loss contributes to hollowing, wrinkles, and reduced firmness in areas such as:

  • Smile lines (nasolabial folds or laugh lines)
  • Marionette lines (lines from the corners of your mouth)
  • Chin wrinkles (below the lip at the chin)
  • Cheeks
  • Area around nose and mouth
  • Acne scars
  • Neck
  • Lips
  • Jawline and jowls
  • Forehead
  • Temples
  • Under the eyes
  • Areas of skin laxity and hollowness
  • Areas of skin with dryness, uneven texture, and uneven tone

How Does Sculptra Stimulate Collagen?

Sculptra’s active ingredient, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), works beneath the surface of the skin to encourage your body’s natural collagen production. Rather than acting as a traditional filler, PLLA creates a subtle response in the deeper layers of the skin that supports gradual collagen rebuilding over time.

After treatment, the PLLA microparticles are slowly absorbed by the body. As this happens, new collagen forms around the treated areas, helping restore structure, firmness, and support where volume loss has occurred.

Because collagen develops gradually, results appear progressively rather than all at once. This approach helps create natural-looking improvements that continue to evolve over several months and can last up to two years.

Med Spa Consultation

Every Sculptra treatment at Viva begins with a complimentary med spa consultation. During this visit, you’ll meet one-on-one with an experienced aesthetics injector who will take the time to answer your questions, understand your goals, and address any concerns you may have. All of Viva’s aesthetic injectors are Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants), bringing an elevated level of medical training and clinical oversight to every procedure.

Your consultation includes a medical review of your health history and medications, followed by a personalized treatment plan designed specifically for you, always with your health, safety, and long-term results in mind.

During Your Sculptra Appointment

Once your treatment plan is established, your Sculptra appointment itself is a straightforward, in-office procedure that typically takes about 30 minutes.

Mandy Ward, FNP-BC, aesthetic nurse practitioner at Viva Day Spa + Med Spa in Dallas, provides thoughtful, personalized patient care.

Before your session begins, your aesthetic injector will review the plan with you again and make sure you feel comfortable and informed. If needed, a topical numbing cream may be applied to help minimize discomfort.

During treatment, Sculptra is injected using a small, thin needle into targeted areas beneath the skin. Your provider will communicate with you throughout the appointment, checking in and adjusting as needed to support your comfort. Many patients describe the sensation as brief and very tolerable.

Sculptra FAQs

How Many Sculptra Sessions Will I Need?

For ideal results, you will likely need three Sculptra sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Sculptra offers longer-lasting results than many hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers on the market.

Most fillers require maintenance injections every 6 to 9 months. However, the majority of patients see their Sculptra results last anywhere from one to two years.

Generally, one maintenance Sculptra treatment per year is needed — usually with a smaller amount of product — to preserve seamless results.

How Long Does Sculptra Last?

According to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, Sculptra results can last two years or longer.

Is Sculptra a Filler?

Yes, Sculptra is an injectable cosmetic filler. It contains a biocompatible, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is naturally absorbed by the body. Sculptra prompts your skin to produce it’s own natural collagen over time, gradually restoring volume, smoothing wrinkles and improving skin thickness.

Is Sculptra Safe?

Yes, Sculptra was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2004 and has a long history of safe use in aesthetic medicine.

At Viva Day Spa + Med Spa in Dallas, Sculptra treatments are performed by experienced medical professionals who follow established safety protocols and tailor each treatment plan to your individual goals and health history.

Is Sculptra Permanent?

No. Sculptra results are long-lasting, but not permanent.

Because collagen loss is a natural part of aging, your body will continue to change over time. Most patients see results that last up to two years, with many choosing a maintenance treatment to help preserve their results longer.

At Viva Day Spa + Med Spa in Dallas, your provider will recommend a treatment and maintenance plan based on your goals, timeline, and how your skin responds to Sculptra.

When Will I See Sculptra Results?

Sculptra works gradually, so results appear over time rather than all at once.

Some patients notice subtle improvements within the first few weeks, but optimal results typically develop after a series of treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. As collagen production increases, skin looks smoother, firmer, and more refreshed over the following months.

This gradual process helps create natural-looking results without an abrupt or overfilled appearance.

How Does a Sculptra Injection Feel? Does It Hurt?

Sculptra injections are generally quick and very tolerable. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch or light pressure during treatment.

To support comfort, Sculptra contains lidocaine, and your Dallas provider may also use a topical numbing cream as needed. Treatments are performed in a calm, clinical setting and typically involve little to no downtime afterward.

What Will I Look Like After Treatment?

Most people return to their normal activities right after Sculptra treatment. Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites is possible, but these effects are typically temporary and resolve within a few days.

If needed, a cold compress during the first 24 hours can help reduce swelling. Because Sculptra works gradually, changes develop subtly over time rather than all at once, supporting natural-looking results as collagen rebuilds.

What Is a Sculptra Butt Lift?

A Sculptra butt lift (also known as a non-surgical Brazilian butt lift or BBL) is a cosmetic treatment designed to enhance shape, smooth texture, and improve skin firmness in the buttocks without surgery or downtime.

Sculptra works by stimulating collagen over time, so results develop gradually and look soft and natural rather than immediate or dramatic, making it a popular option for patients seeking subtle enhancement without surgery.

Does Sculptra Help With Cellulite?

Yes. Sculptra can help improve the appearance of cellulite by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production in areas where dimpling and uneven texture occur.

As new collagen forms, the skin becomes firmer and more supported, which can smooth the look of cellulite over time. Results develop gradually, creating a more even, natural-looking surface rather than an abrupt change.
